WONDERful Wildlife Day

Back by popular demand, we’re excited to announce the second annual WONDERful Wildlife Day. Join us for a day brimming with fun activities created to help you explore the WONDERful wildlife we have across the park and learn more about how we are boosting biodiversity. We have many new and exciting additions, and some favourites returning too. Please find below details of all the activities you can enjoy on the day, including one chargeable workshop. To avoid disappointment, pre-booking is required for selected activities.

On the park

Marvellous Moths
10am to 11am
Discover what landed in our moth trap overnight.
Activity leaders: Paul Eele, Holkham National Nature Reserve Warden, and our very own Moff.

Warden Wander
10.15am to 11.30am
A short walk to look for birds, bees and butterflies around the park.

Investigating Insects
1pm to 2.30pm
Have a sweep in our meadows to see what calls them home.

Buzzing Bees
12 noon to 12.30pm, 1.30pm to 2pm (and then from 2pm in the Visitor Reception Courtyard)
Visit our hives with our beekeeper, Catherine Leech, to learn more about how bees make honey. There will be a hive on display in the Visitor Reception Courtyard and a chance to sample various honeys, all available to purchase in our Pinewoods Store. Catherine will also be available to answer all of your bee questions!

Walk on the Wild Side with Jake Fiennes
3pm to 4pm
This is a special opportunity to join Jake on a walk around the Holkham National Nature Reserve and boardwalk onsite and listen to his stories of conservation at Holkham and how we are fulfilling our vision to become the UK’s most pioneering and sustainable rural estate. A book signing will follow in the conference room.

In the Visitor Reception Courtyard

From the Allotment
10am to 3pm
Built by our very own warden Darren, we have a new herb barrow which will be set up outside reception with herbs from the allotment plus free potted cuttings for you to take a way.

Talking Game
10am to 4pm
Browse an informative display and chat with Holkham’s Head Gamekeeper, Mark Fitzer.

Craft Activities
10am to 4pm
Come along and make your own bag for life with flower hammering using wildflowers and foliage from around the park.

Building Bug Hotels
10am to 4pm
Come and join our gardening team and make yourself a bug hotel to take away. All hotels are made from materials found around the park.

Closing the Loop
10am to 4pm
Join our WONDER warden who will explain what happens to your waste. Owners can pick up a free food waste bin free to help with composting separation. There will be colouring sheets for youngsters and a fun competition to enter too!

At the Lake

Pond Dipping
10am to 12 noon, 1pm to 3pm
Discover what’s lurking in the lake in our drop-in session.

Munchkin and Me
Four sessions for under-fives
Session 1: 
10am to 10.40am: Immersive Storytelling
10.40am to 11.15am: Time to Explore Play Tray Activities

Session 2:
11.30am to 12.10pm: Immersive Storytelling
12.10pm to 12.45pm Time to Explore Play Tray Activities

Session 3:
1.15pm to 1.55pm: Immersive Storytelling
1.55pm to 2.30pm: Time to Explore Play Tray Activities

Session 4:
2.45pm to 3.25pm: Immersive storytelling
3.25pm to 4.00pm: Time to Explore Play Tray Activities

Booking: £5 per child. Maximum capacity is 20 children per session. Please book in advance at Visitor Reception or by telephone on 01328 710439.All children are to be accompanied by an adult at all times during this activity. During Play Tray Activities there will be some wet play.

On the Beach

British Divers Marine Life Rescue

10am to 4pm

Beach Hut 40 on Wells Beach

The team will be performing demonstrations and raising awareness for the marine life along our shores.

 

Please note…
All of our activities are being led by our team and designed to be family friendly. Adult supervision is required at all times. The activities are designed so that you can take part in multiple activities throughout the day.

Please wear suitable footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather on the day.

If the weather is too inclement, we reserve the right to cancel at short notice.
