It’s been another busy year working on some projects to help reduce our environmental impact here at Pinewoods, and at this end of year time of reflection, we thought we’d look back at our highlights.
Michael from our Grounds team is also a member of the WONDER Crew (our staff group of sustainability champions). He says, “In the Spring, it was great to install our WONDER Wall — a living wall in front of reception. With support from the Holkham Landscape Team, we planted 1,000 plants into recycled plastic pots. We’ve also been replacing raised beds filling them with pollinator-friendly plants such as verbena, and planting more trees around the Curlew development.”
Using less gas is one of our main carbon goals.
Sue Penlington, our Sustainability Manager, explains a bit more: “We were really pleased to be able to secure the first all-electric caravan on site. With a dedicated EV charger and an electric BBQ with 100% renewable energy powering the heating, energy and hot water, this is an exciting opportunity to offer a fossil fuel free stay. We’re thrilled to report customer feedback has been really positive and we’ve just sold a new model to a new owner, showing lower carbon holidays are on people’s minds. In addition to this, we also used renewable gas in our shower blocks on the touring field, which reduced the carbon emissions by 32%.”
Di from our Reception team is also a member of the WONDER Crew. Her highlight was hosting our second WONDERful Wildlife Day in the summer. With the help of the wider Holkham team they ran a series of walks and activities for our guests. Di is also our go-to ‘up cycler’ who has made a lot of this year’s Christmas decorations using natural materials and items which would otherwise be thrown away.
We’re looking forward to seeing what’s in store for 2025!
