Five reasons to book an off-peak Norfolk break at Pinewoods Holiday Park
April 24, 2024 | Holiday tips | 6 minute read
We’re firm believers that a trip to North Norfolk is always a good idea, but of course, there are times of the year that will be more suited to you and your holiday needs. School holidays – particularly in the summer – are a popular time in Wells-next-the-Sea, but there’s plenty to enjoy during the off-peak months too. So let’s explore why a term-time trip might be a more preferable option for you, making your Pinewoods break one that you’ll absolutely love.
You’ll miss the crowds
Anyone who’s visited Norfolk – or any popular beach destination in the UK – will know that high days and school holidays can be very busy, with seaside lovers flocking to the coast like a bunch of seagulls to a leftover carton of chips. And we understand the draw – of course we do! There’s nothing better than a sunny day at the seaside.
But all those people can make traffic (both pedestrian and vehicle) more hectic, car parks can be chock-a-block, and finding a peaceful spot on the beach gets more challenging. Plus, any visitor to Wells during the peak season will have seen the long queues outside the chippy!
Booking to stay at Pinewoods outside of the peak summer season will allow you to enjoy Wells-next-the-Sea, Wells and Holkham beach, the local towns and villages, and the cafés, pubs and shops within them, far more easily. You’ll be able to enjoy long walks on almost empty beaches too, and Wells and Holkham beach are truly vast when the tide’s out. Plus, many local attractions remain open much of the year.
Off-peak stays see greater availability
We have a whole range of caravan holiday homes, lodges and touring pitches here at Pinewoods. While they’re all modern and well-equipped, there might be a particular collection you have your eye on. You might prefer to be lakeside, imagining sipping a cool glass of wine as you enjoy the lake view in the evening. You might be on more of a budget, looking for the best value for your group. Perhaps you’re looking for something more luxurious like our lodges for a special occasion. Or maybe you’re a more sustainable traveller and have your heart set on our e-Lakeside Luxe electric caravan.
Whatever it is you’re looking for from your holiday, you’re more likely to get the space you’re interested in if you’re coming during an off-peak month. There’ll be a wider range available for you to choose from, with more dates too, so you can book whatever and whenever suits you and your party perfectly.

The same can be said for nearby restaurants (like The Victoria, pictured below). Peak season means booking a table in advance is necessary, but an off-peak stay gives more flexibility and fewer queues!
Things are a bit different
We’re often asked what it’s like to live here all year round, when there are fewer tourists visiting and it’s all a little quieter (spoiler: Wells-next-the-Sea is beautiful all year round!).
And you’ll get an insight into that if you visit during the off-peak or shoulder season. We’re open from mid March until just after New Year’s Day, so there’s plenty of time to get a feel for Wells and North Norfolk outside of the peak summer months.
If you’ve visited Pinewoods before and loved it, why not book for a different month? The nature and wildlife that is all around us on the beach and Holkham National Nature Reserve varies throughout the year (so you’ll have to come in every season to work out which is your favourite!).
You’ll benefit from lower priced holidays
Because of the increased demand during the summer months and school holidays, prices of our caravan holiday homes, lodges and pitches do tend to rise. That means booking an off-peak stay will save you some money.
And what could you do with that? Of course, you could save it, or you could use it to make your holiday even better! Indulge with some more meals out rather than cooking in, treat yourself to a more luxurious stay, or add on a couple of extra days!
There’s more peace, quiet and relaxation
With fewer holidaymakers travelling to Norfolk, and fewer guests staying at Pinewoods too, an off-peak holiday might feel more appealing. Some people thrive in the hubbub of the busy season, while others prefer a more tranquil atmosphere.
Booking a stay in our quieter months enables you to enjoy everything there is on offer at Pinewoods and locally, just with fewer people around! If you’re a keen birdwatcher, or love nothing more than a relaxing read on the decking without interruption, you might want to opt to come during off-peak months.
With so much nature on our doorstep to enjoy, a Pinewoods stay will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised any time of year. Take a look and see where you might like to stay… and if we’ve really tempted you, click here to book your holiday at Pinewoods.
Who knows? There might be availability for a last minute holiday very soon!
