October’s product of the month: Whin Hill Cider
October 9, 2021 | Product of the month | 3 minute read
At Pinewoods, we’re proud to sell apple cider and apple juice from the very local, Wells-next-the-Sea based, Whin Hill Norfolk Cider company. Being able to sell good quality produce, made just a stones throw away, is a source of pride: Whin Hill reflects this perfectly.
Whin Hill Norfolk Cider had humble beginnings in 1993 when friends Jim and Pete started to make cider from spare apples in their garden. This cider was well received by friends & family, and any cider that was left over eventually sold to local pubs. Jim and Pete eventually bought a plot of land in the North Norfolk village of Stanhoe, whereby an orchard for their trees would supply them with the perfect apples to create more mellow, full-bodied ciders. Years later, what first was a hobby between two friends, had turned into a thriving, local business with loyal customers who know exactly what to expect from their cider and apple juice. Mark and Lisa took the reins from Jim & Pete in 2012 when they retired, and have plans for future innovation and expansion of the business. At Pinewoods we are very proud to be one of many resident shops who sell Whin Hill locally.
As a business, Pinewoods is very aware of environmental impact and have ongoing sustainability projects in place to reduce our carbon footprint. Businesses such as Whin Hill are a pleasure to work with due to their stance on the environment and their efforts to provide natural, sustainable habitats for flora and fauna at their orchards. You can read up on their strides towards environmentally friendly production on their website.
There are cider-selections for everybody: medium-sparkling, dry-sparkling, medium-still, and the list goes on. Whin Hill also sells award-winning perry; made from pears harvested at their orchard in Stanhoe. And let’s not forget our firm Pinewoods favourite – their refreshing apple juice – perfect for stopping by and picking up in the morning to have alongside your breakfast.
Whin Hill will be selling, and sharing tasters, of their drinks in the Pinewoods courtyard area (outside reception) on Saturday 23rd October, along with other local suppliers. You’re welcome to visit even if you aren’t staying at Pinewoods at that time, and we look forward to seeing you then!
