Pioneering environmental gain

We will pioneer environmental gain, with a goal to increase natural capital every year, with every decision made.

Natural capital is the soil beneath our feet, the air that we breathe, the water which we drink, the biodiversity – range of plants and animals and the services they provide as well as public access and landscape value.

One of the three key goals of WONDER is to increase natural capital every year, with every decision made.

What we’re doing to help increase natural capital

We’ve reduced mowing

to protect habitats and pollen sources

We’ve opened an allotment

which provides families with an opportunity to grow fruit and veg

We’ve added hanging baskets

to enrich biodiversity

We support woodland play

to encourage discovery and interaction with nature

We’ve created wildflower areas

planting native flowers for invertebrates

We’ve developed a nature trail

for fun and exploration of the wildlife area

We’ve introduced pollinator-friendly plants

like growing honeysuckle and lavender in raised beds
