Championing low carbon living

We will champion low carbon living with a goal of becoming a carbon negative estate by 2040.

The main source of our carbon emissions is the gas used for heating, hot water and cooking. Other, less direct emissions come from the items we buy (including those for the shop) as well as from travel – both members of our team and also our owners and guests.

Some of the site also takes in carbon which helps to balance our impact.

What we’re doing to help champion low carbon living

All of our electricity is green,

reducing emissions

Solar panels and lights

help to generate our own energy

Investment into electric machinery and vehicles

is a big step forward

Cycle hire and our electric bus

reduce air pollution

Push button taps and showers

reduce water use

Water butts at reception

help save this precious resource

Living rooves

sequester carbon

Dark skies designation

saves energy and helps wildlife

Our electric caravan, the e-Lakeside Luxe,

is the first of its kind in East Anglia

We’re trialing low carbon gas

for our facilities blocks on the touring field

You can make a difference

Here’s how you can support this goal during your Pinewoods stay:

  • Turn electrical items off at the plug when not in use
  • Only boil the amount of water you will use in your kettle
  • Switch off the lights in rooms you’re not using
  • Pop on a jumper instead of using the fire, and turn down your thermostat and radiators slightly
  • Reduce how long you have your heating on
  • Close your windows if the heating is on
  • Pop lids on your pans (which speeds up cooking, too!)
  • Only heat the oven when needed
  • Take shorter showers

You can make a difference

You can help us by making a few simple changes during your stay. Here are just a few ideas.
